Composition in the Park

Composition in the Park

Saturday 18 May
Mercer Road - 10am - 2 Hours
Bruce Mironov
Come and join us as we explore composition in photography.

Composition is one of the most critical element in photography. Composition is how a photographer arranges the visual elements within their image, frame. I promise you that if you search for information on composition you will find plenty You will find formal rules, opinion, some of which you can trace back to historical art movements and painters.

Even in the digital world, composition remains the key to creating strong images. Composition is what guides our eye through an image and gives importance to the subject. It creates the story for the viewer and how we as photographers convey that message.

This meetup will explore composition using our frame and tools available to us as the photographer.
Street Art Photography

Street Art Photography

Saturday 01 June
Ocean Ave. - 10am - 2 Hours
Bruce Mironov
Street art is a unique and colorful art form and can be found in all kinds of nooks and crannies in cities all over the world. Capturing art in the streets in photographs can be tricky because these urban art pieces are in public spaces, that are busy and usually filled with a decent amount of traffic. Sometimes you include the people and sometimes, you don't.

As an expert film photographer I learned that digital is very different but the same. Also that many of the selections on my camera are basically useless for my needs. Just set the dial on "M" and go from there just like film.
The beginner class ended up being a one on one experience. Mai was great and helped refresh my memory about shutter speed and aperture settings. She taught me things about my camera that I didn?t know. I will never shoot on auto again. I also enjoyed visiting Cheesequake park as I had never been there.
I thought it was great. Mai was a very knowledgeable and friendly instructor.

Good place for photography with a good and knowledgeable instructor.

This photo was taken a few years ago at Central Park, NYC. Two people, complete strangers to me were sitting on the rocks enjoying the view and each other. I had already taken a few photos of them looking at the view and they turned to each other for a kiss and I was able to capture that moment.

The picture was taken on the season opening of Allaire Village. It was late in the day and most of the events for the day had already taken place and the village was fairly empty. The two bunnys look as if they are taken a well deserved rest in the afternoon sun after entertaining children all day. I hope if any one decides to purchase one they purchase both, they seem to belong together. Camera Olympus OM 5 with 12 -45 pro lens. Not sure about question regarding posting, I posted as a re

This photo of branches against a very gray sky was taken during a Beginners class on April 13. I tried to blacken out the branches as much as possible to get the silhouette effect. It was shot at 1/320th f16 ISO 400 - Shutter priority .

Days before the COVID-19 lockdown, I went to Avon by the Sea with my photography group to capture the Spring morning light. As we walked on the beach, the formation of rocks and the rising sun caught my attention. I stopped and composed the shot. Afterward, I also noticed how the clouds in the sky looked like waves running up onto the beach.

I took this photo after work on the night of Friday 5-10-24. I was seeing posts about people seeing the northern lights as low as Oklahoma. I went home and grabbed my camera and equipment and went to Vancouver Lake not sure if I could capture anything. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to capture photos. This is just one of many pleasant surprises from that evening, enjoy.

Photo of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) taken on New Brighton promenade on Friday 10th May 2024 (around 11:53pm) - the night when the Northern Lights was visible from much of the UK.I'd be thinking of heading out to try and catch a photo of the Northern Lights for the past few weeks as had seen notifications on various apps and on Facebook that there might be a chance of seeing them. I finally decided to go out and see if I could see them on that evening, and I was extremely lucky tha

I started taking my son to RIAT in 2008 when he was just six years old. He had to follow Dad, and would be seen armed with my old Canon 350D. I was using a Canon 40D and Canon 100-400mm L series lens at the time.RIAT is wholly dependant upon the right weather for good photography. Cloud too low - display routines are changed. Too much cloud and rain - the background is too grey. The weather can also be too good, leaving bright blue, but boring backgrounds. Thankfully July 18, 2009 provided goo

Knowing there was a high chance of seeing the aurora borealis, I left work early on Friday, May 10. First, I stopped at my local camera store to buy a new lens I had been dreaming about (14-24mm f2.8). Then I drove to Minnesota to meet up with another photographer. By 1am, we found ourselves by this lake. I often found myself admiring the aurora and not taking pictures. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced.
